Doctor Who Video: My Skin

Description: A damaged Doctor finds, but also loses, much. Sadly his path continues to be one of 
guilt ridden darkness and loneliness.

Notes: I'm not even sure where to begin with what to say about this vid. It was started back in October. 
The usual RL things delayed it, but it did progress, then at the end of January, my hard drive 
crashed and I lost it, it was about 3/4 finished. I wasn't sure I could resurrect it at all,...but thanks to the very dear humansrsuperior, who had saved some of my rendered clips, I decided to give it a try. I wouldn't have even considered it at all if she hadn't saved them. That, along with leviathan101's encouraging words: "What I might consider doing in your shoes, is to plug in those pieces and edit around it to finish," gave me hope and I began 
trying to sew it back together. I'm happy to finally be able to post this. :)

I think this needs repeating, so I'll say it again. No one vids Nine and captures him with so much depth as you, RAS. This vid is beautiful, and it brought me to tears. Like I said, I haven't cried watching a vid in a LONG time. That moment, right about 1:07... that's what broke me. With that part, and with the way you layer everything overall, it's all so fresh and just GORGEOUS. I also loved how you transitioned into Ten. It was so smooth, and fit the music so well, you'd never doubt that Nine and Ten ARE the Doctor, and he loves Rose. It boggles the mind how anyone can't see that.

I'm glad you fought through so much to finish this vid. I can't say thanks enough for pushing through and finally posting. It was well worth the wait. (((HUGS)))

Oh rho..I just don't know how to respond to this. You totally made my night golden when I read this shortly after I posted...and then read your beautiful vid rec! I just can't thank you enough...You are going to make me cry! Many many (((HUGS)))) back.

I'm so touched the vid moves you so...that moment at 1:07 with Nine's tear coupled with the lyric was something I so wanted to have just the right emotional impact..and reading you had tears,...well that is all I needed to hear! I'm also thrilled you feel the transition from Nine to ten feels so smooth..that really makes me smile for I thought long and hard about how to do it. Thank you so much rho for all your concern and thoughtfulness when this vid was first lost. It wasn't an easy task..but as you said, it would have been hard to go on without trying to put it together ..leaving no chance of closure. As you said, these vids are our heart and soul..aren't they?

Thank you again for being so eager to see this and coming here so immediately to leave such a beautiful reply...I am treasuring it. xoxox

That was so lovely, I'm ever so glad you finished. it. I was just scrolling through old pictures of 9 earlier today and your video brought back even more memories of that season. The joy with great underlying sadness of that doctor. Then echoes of 9's memories when you brought 10 into the piece, perfect. What a beautiful song you chose too, thank you for sharing... all around great work!

What beautiful comments, [info]un4scene! I dearly love Nine and his am so pleased you enjoyed the memories of him the vid brought back to you. I love how you put it, "the great joy and underlying sadness of that doctor"...that is so what I had hoped to capture. Thank you for saying that you felt those 'echoes of Nine's memories when I brought Ten into the piece were perfect'. I wanted the section that bridged the two to feel as seamless as I could get it...showing that they are indeed the same person. Hearing you say this makes me feel that I was able to do that. :)

This is THE BEST video I ever seen! Ever! Seriously! I was shocked to find a so wonderful video so casually.

I never saw anyone captured the Doctor(s) essence in a most perfect way!

Absolutely gorgeous.

On a technical note, you use so many overlays, yet they fit so perfectly with the music and were so clear that they never felt the slightest bit out of place. Really wonderful use of the footage, giving us crops and angles that I haven't seen in any other vids. Brilliant and very emotionally affecting. I'm so glad your betas encouraged you to finish it after your hard drive crash, because this is just spectacular. Thank you for posting it.

You have killed me dead. That was AMAZING. Just last night I was wishing somebody would do My Skin properly, and what do I get when I check the flist this morning? One of the best fanvids I have ever seen (and I've seen a LOT), with that perfect song.

You've captured everything so well in this vid that I don't have the properly adjectives to describe it!

First of all, much *applause* for you picking up the pieces and putting this all back together after you lost it so close to being done the first time. (Oh, that just hurt to read that part, I have to say! :( ) I'm so glad that not only were you able to get the pieces back and then rebuild from there, but that you had the tenacity to do so. That just had to be so incredibly discouraging when that happened!

Now, beyond that... This is just a beautiful vid! The flow of the overlays just goes so perfectly with the flow of the music. And I especially loved how you really kept the editing on the Doctor the same, whether it was Nine or Ten (and how the Gallifreyan images were used for both of them). What a lovely visual way to show that they're the same person!

And then the sad, lonely ending with the poor Doctor left walking away on his own again... *sniffle* Really, really beautifully done! ♥!

Thank you for your sweet "applause" for my picking up the pieces of the vid. And oh yes, it was so discouraging(there were even some tears),I'd gotten so far and couldn't believe I'd never see that timeline again but I am so glad I tried and am eternally grateful to HRS for saving the renders I'd sent her.

Thank you for all the wonderful things you've said here. I am sooo pleased you mentioned the Gallifrey scenes and how I used them for both doctors. One of my biggest goals is to always try and make both nine and ten feel like the same person as much as I can. I'm so pleased you feel I was able to do this.

Thank you again for watching and commenting..it means a great deal to hear from you, a fellow Nine fan...and one fabulous vidder whose work I so admire! Wow, that was just touching in a colossal kind of way. Seriously, I think my eye got a little wet.
And I'm still not tired of the song! I surprise myself! It's just utterly beautiful and makes you feel a little blue.

It's terrific how you pictured the ninth and tenth doctor's journey through all that. Time War, Rose, the death of the Master. It's all heartbreaking.

My favourite scene was at 3:58. That's just so, so, so, so very pretty. It's a very bitter sweet moment and I just love that.
So very well done. You've got some awesome vidding skills!

WOW. It's so rare to see Nine in anything, so I really enjoyed this. And to watch how he evolves and yet is the same. It's always left with him alone. And it's so sad! The music works really well. GREAT editing. :)

Oh RAS, this is amazing, sad and a beautiful mix of Nine and Ten.

I have to admit that while I loved it on the first watch, it gets better and better with each viewing. You don’t pick up on the lyrics and editing until you have a chance to watch it a few times. And I have to admit that I've watched it a few times. How could I not?

Each time that chorus plays, your editing with the lyrics is amazing. Actually, the entire vid’s mix with the lyrics is fantastic but the chorus is gorgeous. I want to crawl through the monitor and just exist in the vid.

Those scenes from FoB with LotTL? ADJKADSJL. Way to kill me while I’m at work. And no one uses those scenes from FoB when Ten is walking away from Baines like you do.

I plan to rec this but I haven’t updated the rec post in a while. I’m going to try to get to it this weekend and I'll hopefully have more to add then.

That is definitely one of the most powerful videoes I've ever seen. And even more than that I'm amazed at how well you over lapped without being too flashy and keeping the rhythm of the video going.

You made the clips your own and breathed new life into images that have probably been seen a hundred times over. In the words of the Ninth Doctor... you did a FANTASTIC job!

I do not think there is any better way to say it. I hope you continue making these types of masterpieces for a long time coming. :D

And I hope you won't mind me adding you to my friends list... so I can keep up with more of your works.

I'm so thrilled you feel the vid is such a powerful one, I so wanted to tell the doctor's moving story as best I could by meeting the power of this music. Thank you for the great comments on how well the overlapped imagery works and keeps with the rhythm of the video.
